When should fire alarms be tested
British Standard recommends that fire alarm testing should be carried out weekly to comply with the building’s fire risk assessment. A manual call point should be operated with the test key using a different call point each week in rotation. The test should be carried out at approximately the same time of day and the results recorded in the logbook.
It is the responsibility of the building owner to ensure that testing is carried out on a weekly basis and failure to comply with these regulations can put lives at risk and incur serious penalties.
